I've tooken a video of mine and split it into two clips. My question is, how do you save the clips as an .avi rather than as a .MSWMM file? I want to post them on a site, but the .MSWMM type is not accepted.

Help, please?

  1. As far as I know, you can't save it as an AVI. Only WMA or MSWMM

  2. Being windows movie maker, it will only let you save or compile your movie in a windows-specific format (.wmv). The .MSWMM is the microsoft windows movie maker file, or the unrendered file that opens in movie maker. To get it to .avi, you must take a couple of steps:

    1. Open your .MSWMM file.

    2. Click File-Save Movie File

(make sure not to click Save Project As)

    3. Follow instructions in the window that pops up, save to desired location.

    4. Go to www.media-convert.com.

    5. Next to the word "file" with a large blank next to it, there is a browse button, click it.

    6. Find your .wmv movie file, it will probably be in My Videos (unless you saved it somewhere different).

    7. Below an ad, there will be "Output Format" with a dropdown menu next to it, select "Audio Video Interleave (.avi)" from that menu.

    8. Click the small blue "OK" button just to the right of the output format menu, follow any instructions, and you're done!
