Does anyone know how to find your windows registration key using windows explorer. I know I can, using downloads etc, but I have a problem with my pc at moment.

I have run a virus checker on my pc, but that hasn't picked up a virus. So the only thing I can suggest is re-installing windows XP.

Please can some one help me.

I would like answers from only people who can offer help.

  1. download and install belarc adviser, it will give you all your product keys of software installed including the operating system

  2.   Just reinstall your XP , that should solve your problem.

  4. click on "start"

    click on "run"

    type in "regedit" without quotations

    click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    click on SOFTWARE

    click on Microsoft

    click on Windows

    click on Current Version

once there you will see a data field that has the Product ID # you need.

    hope this helps.

  5. You will not find it with windows explorer; the registration key is on the windows operating system discs that came with your pc or with the recovery discs that came with your pc.

  6. Unfortuantly XP doesn't have the key readily viewable.  In previous windows versions there was a registry key that stored the registration key.

The only solution is to either get one of the downloadable programs, you can find several through google.  You might try downloading them from another machine and transfer using a disk or other media.

Also, several sites I saw had scripts that you might be able to copy and paste and then run on your machine.  Since I do not have the details of your problem I couldn't suggest anything specific.

  7. My computer came with windows already installed, the case

has the windows key stuck to it.

Now if you connect to this site, Windows will be

checked and you can continue with installation.

  8. As the first answer, use the Magical Jelly Bean program, http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

I've used it several times, it's free and it just gives you the info you want.

  9. The registration key comes with the software. Mine is on the outside of the package that I got the disk in. Some others the key is on the bottom of their laptop, or on the side of the computers tower. If you don't have it don't reinstall windows because you cant get it back on again! Get the key before you do anything. And downloading a fake key, or using a friends does not work as Microsoft is pretty good at spotting the fakes.

It could also be spy-ware which is quite common on computers download this software from Spybot Search and Destroy it's completely free and works great! It has saved my computer many, many, many times!

  10. Download and install Belarc Adviser (it's free) It will build a profile of your computer that includes the key...
