  2. what would be the point of having a server if your not going to use it to control a domain ?

  3. SBS is cheaper and includes several features that would typically cost you a LOT of money.  BUT, you would be violating licensing if you do not set it up as a Domain Controller.  Frankly, why would you NOT want a domain? It makes things SO much easier!

And, you should keep in mind, if you thought you were saving money, think again.  If you don't plan on using the features, it will cost you MORE money.  The Client Access licenses cost MUCH more than a standard server CAL and by the time you reach 10 users, you will have spent the "savings" on additional licenses.

SBS includes many features that make it MUCH more user friendly to manage than Windows Server 2003 - but you MUST set it up properly to take advantage of these features.

Frankly, you should have gotten professional help in selecting the server.  Trying to do it yourself will cost you - maybe not in direct dollars (right away), but indirectly, it will cost you.  For example, I could change my own brakes... but if I s***w it up, it would be really bad to not have breaks approaching a red light 3 months later because I did it wrong.  But at least I saved $100... right?  So what, it cost me $3000 and I killed a person in a car accident ... at least I saved that $100 three months ago... right?

If you don't know what you're doing, hire a professional.  Do what YOU know best and let the pro do what they know best... or short-sighted focus will cost you more in the long run.

  4. Gotta agree wtih Dr. Bucks here, I suppose it might be possible but what would be the purpose?
