Windows vista help please ?

um yea i wanted to know if you can put windows vista on computers from the year 2000 and up ? cuase my cuzin has this gateway and she wants to put window vista but she wants to kno if it will take it first her computer is like from the early 2000'sim not sure i think 2001 or somthing

  1. The answer is No.  It is highly unlikely that a computer that old will be capable of running Vista. The CPU will be too slow and there will probably not be enough memory to run Vista.  Another factor will be the graphics card.

    The recommended specs for Vista are:

        *  1 GHz Intel-compatible processor

        * 1GB RAM

        * DirectX 9.0-Capable Graphics Processor, with 128MB graphics memory. (64MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor less than 1,310,720 pixels [no more than 1440x900]; 128MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions from 1,310,720 to 2,304,000 pixels [no more than 1920x1200]; 256MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 2,304,000 pixels [more than 1920x1200]).

        * 40GB HD with at least 15GB "free space"

    Note that these are Microsoft's recommended specs which means that you need to double them to get decent performance.
