so i needed a vista home premium disk to reformat my laptop. i asked my tech director at college if i could borrow a vista home premium disk from the school. she handed me a disk labeled "vista" and i put it in my laptop and it just says "windows vista" it isnt labeled as home, or home premium or ultimate. is this an older version of vista? and can i still use my CD key to register it?

  1. Just use the disc. There is no "older" version of Vista unless you mean pre-SP1. You should be able to use your CD key with it...

assuming its a legit disc anyways.

  2. It could be an generic one, meant it contains all version of Vista, when you install, you pick the version that on your COA sticker under the laptop

  3. hmmmm school software p****y

1 Vista disk supports all installs

    the cd key will fail

check the install listing for build number
