  1. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...

Go to the preceding link and read all about Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.

    Then go here:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subsc...

At the preceding link you will find drop-down selectors available which you may use to select and download the full SP1 installer for your version and architecture of Windows Vista.

Burn that to a CD or DVD, whichever is large enough.

Do your upgrade and then install SP1 for the correct version of Windows Vista (Ultimate, in your case) and the correct architecture (32-bit versus 64-bit).

  2. You might want to contact Windows Update Support:

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:

    Support for Windows Update:

    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusuppor...

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. [e.g., getting updates installed; problems encountered after installing an update]
