Windows xp home service pack 2 won't install over windows 2000 pro service pack 4?

i bought windows xp home edition and i try to install it on windows 2000 and i get an error message saying that its not an upgradeable path

I had the same exact problem with the computer i'm on now. You can't upgrade from windows 2000 professional to windows xp home edition. You have to upgrade to Windows Xp Professional edition. I had to go back to Best Buy and tell them that one of the employees that works there told me that it would upgrade, but of course it didn't. So they just traded it in for Windows Xp Professional edition. So you could try doing something like that.
