Windsurfing anything like surfing?

Husband would like to try surfing on a future vacation- but we're in Boston (no surfing lessons)- there's a place that I can get him windsurfing lessons- will this help at all- if he takes a surfing lesson later? Or are they totally different?

They are totally different. Go skateboarding instead. It will show you the balance for surfing much better. With windsurfing you can balance yourself against the sail. Not a possibility when on a surf board.
