Question:

Windsurfing locations near London?

I used to windsurf quite a fair bit, then two years ago I moved down to London and gave the whole thing up. Now I'm bored and I get days off that make me even more bored. I really doubt there will be, but are there any reservoirs/sailing clubs in or around London? The closer the better. I don't drive, so ideally it needs to be reachable by train and maybe a little walk. And hopefully it'll provide a refresher course too.

Is there anything like this nearby or am I asking for the moon on a stick?

  1. There are spots near to London but as I'm at the opposite end of the country I don't know the names of them.

Post the same question on this site and you will get an answer.

    www.boards.co.uk

  2. Lee Valley have facilities for wind surfing! It is in North East London. Walthamstow, Edmonton, Chingford area. I went there as a kid and I remember there being wind surfers! They have lots of reserviors. I remember there being water-skiing, canoeing, and rowing too!

  3. Check www.queenmary.org.uk which has details of sailing in SW London. You can join the club or go day sailing there and they have kit for hire. Phone them - their staff are very helpful.

  4. Moon on a stick, mate. Take up train surfing.

  5. Queen Mary Reservoir and one close by, I cant remember the name but Happy Hobie's used to be there - might still be it is sandwiched between the M 4 and M40 just outside of the M25 sounds delightful I know but not too bad really but at the end of the day they are just ponds compared to the sea.

I have just remebered its Bray Lake at Bray

  6. Yep, you're asking for the moon on a stick. I think the place to go in the UK is Torquay but that's nowhere near London. Maybe you should take on a new activity...like running on a treadmill...not so exciting though...
