  1. cuz thats how they are made ....duhh

  2. That dent like hole is a means of dispersing the sediment that gathers in the bottom of a bottle of wine when it's left standing upright for too long.

Additionally, that dent serves the same purpose when a bottle of wine is properly stored. As the person who keeps the wine periodically turns their bottles, that dent helps disperse the sediment - the guts of the wine - throughout the entire bottle and stirs that sediment up better than a flat bottom could so that the stuff in the sediment stands a chance of circulating a bit to maintain a consistant product.

  3. A punt, also known as a kick-up, refers to the dimple at the bottom of a wine bottle. There is no consensus explanation for its purpose.

  4. Because thats h**l you get a bottle of wine a dobbie a women/man and casino chips only problem is that there is a hole in the wine the dobbie is green the man/woman is a cross chips there are casino chips but no casino thats h**l for you.

  5. The dimple at the bottom of a wine bottle is known as the "punt."  In modern times, it likely serves little practical purpose, but is thought to be a remnant of glass blowing technique in days past. The punt may give the bottle added strength and stability,  as a flat bottomed bottle would be wobbly if the glass had an uneven surface.  Waiters and sommeliers often hold the bottle with their thumb inserted into the punt as they pour wine for a diner.

The person who answered above, talking about using it to distribute sediment is perhaps confused with the process of turning bottles during the manufacture of champagne.  Typically, a wine collector would want to leave the bottles completely undisturbed on their sides and allow the sediment to cake against the side of the bottle.  Then, the wine can be carefully decanted off when it is time to be served.

    Hope that helps.  Cheers!
