What's the best wine to serve for dinner tonight?

  1. So many opinions, all are good.

    Personally, I would go with Sauvignon Blanc.  It is lightly sweet, floral, and great with seafood.  Your pineapple salsa is sweet, so you don't want something acidic or tarry, so dry white wines such as Chardonnay/Pinot Gris and big red wine like Cabernet and Merlot usually would not go too well.  Seafoods tend to go well with Sauvignon Blanc because of the naturally light sweetness that is not overwhelming, so the flavor of the fish can show without being overpowered.  

    I would suggest Conundrum ($22), Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc ($30), Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc ($30), or Robert Mondavi Napa Fume Blanc ($15).  

    Other choices I would consider include a fruity Pinot Noir (which I am snobbish and would not pick most Pinot under $35), dry Muscato (try La Sirena Muscato Azule - one of the most interesting dry Muscat there is), and Viognier (overpriced but great Viognier from Pride).  

    Ultimately, you wil have to pick whatever style of wine you like.

  2. Prosecco - lightly sparkling wine from Italy, very refreshing and light - a great palate cleanser.

    And btw, to correct another post - Conundrum (formerly from Caymus Vineyards) is not a sauvignon blanc, it is a mix of anywhere from 5 to 7 different grapes (depending on the year - it's a good wine, though, just not a sauv blanc.

  4. White wine will be a perfect one. go for one white fruity , demi sec Bordeaux of your choice. Bon appetit.

  5. The salmon with a sweet salsa I would pair with a dry but fruity  white. Somewhat harder to find than a sweet white.

    My favorite white with salmon is Pinot Grigio. The ones from Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy I found to be fruity with a slilght ciltrus flavor and should do well with your meal.

    I am also now getting into New York State dry Rieslings.

  7. With this dish, a Chardonnay would be crisp and refreshing, it would also offset the sweetness of the pineapple.

  8. Two elements of your dish are on the sweet side: pineapple and corn.  Sweet foods paired with a completely dry wine can make the wine seem too tart.  So, I would go with something off-dry like a Gewurztraminer or Riesling.  Should pair very well with both fish and veggie salad.

  9. forget the wine, have margaritas as an aperif and wine well.. i dunno any light and refreshing wines, white zinfindel? i tend  to stick to chardonnay... ?

  10. Slightly fruity, but still dry, rose would be excellent for this. You have the sweet salsa, tangy tomato and corn, so you want something light to drink with it.

    So I would go with a rose or a blush.

    Whatever type you like best.
