Winky Wright vs. Peter Quillin might happen on Mayweather vs. Cotto undercard – Boxing news
Unbeaten Peter ‘Kid’ might go one on one with Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright on May 5, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight, if happens, will be an undercard bout for the event headlined by Mayweather vs. Cotto event.
Mayweather vs. Cotto already has another big bout of Shane ‘Sugar’ Mosley against Saul ‘Canelo’ Saul, and now with the addition of Wright vs. Quillin things might just get too steamy to handle. The bout is not yet confirmed, however sources have revealed
that it is being considered and is close to finalisation. If it happens, it will be a 10 round fight under the middleweight level and not above it.
Peter Quillin has remained unbeaten to date. He gained his last victory over Craig McEwan from Scotland through a 6th round knockout. The fight was fought as an undercard bout on James Kirkland-Alfredo Angulo in Mexico. The decision soon became the victim
of controversy, however Kid Chocolate paid no heed to it and walked away victorious.
On the other hand, Winky Wright is considered as a Future of Famer for his achievements in the boxing world. He has not stepped in the ring after his last fight, which was against Paul Williams in 2009. Winky lost the fight with a 12 round decision. He is
currently 40 and has been making claims of a comeback bout but nothing has materialised yet. This might be his comeback bout if it gets on the cards.
Previously, there was news of Winky fighting British middleweight Matthew Macklin but it never happened. Winky holds 51 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie in his portfolio with 25 victories coming through knockouts. If the bout happens, it will be a 40-year-old fighter
taking on a 28-year-old unbeaten aggressive gun.
Cotto vs. Mayweather is already being considered event of the year, and with such fights being added to the event on a daily basis, it is for sure that the event will be a must watch. While Mayweather and Cotto will be trying their best to kick off the floor,
others will be in the pursuit of gaining recognition to be the next superstars of the boxing world.
