Winless Cleveland Browns host Cincinnati Bengals – NFL Preview
The winless Cleveland Browns will play the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday (Oct. 14) in a total American Football Conference (AFC) North showdown. A win will still be challenging task for the Browns to meet against their division rivals, who have already
recorded three victories to their credit to stay just behind the leaders Baltimore Ravens.
Rookie running back Trent Richardson can be their last hope while quarterback Brandon Weeden has been inconsistent throughout the current season. Overall he has been found struggling to give a match-winning performance.
The team have struggled at all positions equally while pressure of first win of the season has taken on nerve of a majority of players and further affected their form.
The Browns had hoped that rookie QB Brandon Weeden might help them to respectable finish this season, as they do at the time of arrival of a new QB every year, consistently for more than a decade now.
Brandon, however, has proved to be as much failure as other Browns’ quarterbacks in the past. The gravity of the situation is reflected by the fact that Browns have tried 16 quarterbacks in last 13 years. Every year they sign a new rookie offence leader
who gives them hopes of a better run.
With the franchise sold this year, it is now up to the new owner how he foresees things and how he goes about them. Some commentators back a higher amount of investment to fetch a quality talent from the market that might help the side to be back on winning
ways.
If he sticks with bringing in average players just like previous owners have been doing for past many years, the Browns might not be able to come out of the persistent gloom for another decade.
The Bengals have an edge over the hosts in the forthcoming game, since they have a better record in the division. Also, they have a better offence leader, Andy Dalton. Although he was seen faltering in the last game, he is a capable starting QB, and it will
be difficult for Browns linebacker Scott Fujita and other defensive players to stop him.
He said of the last game:
"The offense didn't play well across the board. It's tough sitting here where we are. We had our chances, but we couldn't get it done."
