  2. Hyperion - 1930 - 1960

    Gainsborough by Selene (Chaucer)

    Won The Derby and the St. Leger in his career ridden by Tommy Watson.

    Trainers : George Lambton (up to end of 3yo career)

    and then Colledge Leader.

    In 1934 he retired to Lord Derby's Woodlands Stud, Newmarket where he lived out the rest of his years.

    He sired 250 individual winners with classic winners including:

    Owen Tudor, Sun Stream, Sun Chariot, Godiva, Sun Castle and Hycilla and  after war he sired among others the Queen's horse Aureole.



    Quote:

    'If the war had not interevened, his record at stud would be even more impessive, but there is no stud book anywhere in the world which does not include a son or daughter of his in their files'.

    Hyperion a Sire of Sires.
