Winner of A7 race at Sheffield is a Fivestar Pupil
Winning a greyhound race can sometimes be likened to finishing at the top of the class in school. The students who perform the best are the ones who receive the highest grades and the
praise of their parents and teachers. A winning greyhound is the recipient of similar honours from its trainer and the racing fans.
Fivestar Pupil finished at the top of his class in the 500m A7 race at the Sheffield Greyhound Stadium this morning. He entered this race as the 2-1 favourite to win, and did not disappoint.
Coming out of trap four, he darted ahead and led third en route a first-place finish in 30.21 seconds.
A clear run secured second place for 7-2 long shot Angie Ruby. However, a distance of 6½ lengths separated her from the top spot, as she finished in 30.73. Placing third was Graces Baby
(3-1), who was just a head’s length behind Angie Ruby with a time of 30.74. During the race, she moved quickly away, and led to third.
Stormy Fortune (4-1) failed to make the top three today, as he finished in fourth place today. His 30.84 finish was 1¼ lengths behind third place. Wiguagainduck (3-1) was forced to check
at third, and finished in 30.96 to take fifth place. He was 1½ lengths behind Stormy Fortune. Last place went to Mugs Knock (5-1), who crowded first and finished 6¼ lengths behind fifth in 31.46.
In the A6 race that followed, Set Aflame (7-2) set the competition on fire with his close finish. He was always handy, and led the run in to win the race in 30.50. Second place went to
Myth Or Legend (3-1) ran to a 30.52 finish, which was only a neck out of first place.
The third-place finisher was Mana Nonv, who was billed as the 7-4 favourite to win this race. His 30.66 finish kept him in the top three, and was 1¾ lengths behind second place. Had he
not experienced some crowding at fourth, the victory might have been his.
Jay Kay (3-1) finished in fourth place with a time of 30.70. He was a ½ length behind the favourite, and despite holding an early pace, he fell near the finish line. Fifth place was claimed
by Tilly Jane (5-1), whose clear run led her to a 31.02 finish that was 4 lengths behind Jay Kay. The sixth and final position went to Stepaside Mini (5-1), who was a ½ length behind fifth place in 31.06.
