Winner of US Road Championships Matthew Busche sets his eye on Vuelta this year – Cycling News
American cyclist Matthew Busche of team RadioShack is looking ahead to make his first appearance in Vuelta a Espana. The route for the Vuelta a Espana 2011 has already been finalised and there are speculations that the Angliru Climb and visit to the Basque
Country has been included for the first time in the Tour.
The 26-year-old is currently riding at the Tour de Pologne and believes that he has improved a lot in the past six months as he stated, “I don’t know if I’m stronger this year, but I think the experience makes a big difference even just riding in bunch,
I feel like I can navigate the race a bit more which helps a lot.”
Busche took his first professional win at the US road championships in May and has finished 36th overall in the recent Tour of Austria. Josh was excited on winning the US pro title as he said that he does not know how it happened and seems like
a dream. He was accompanied by his team-mates Jason McCartney and Ben King as he sprinted his way towards the victory in the US road championships.
Matthew won the USA Pro Cycling Championships in 2011 and was third in the Time Trial events. In 2010, he was third in Tour of Denmark, fourth in Tour of Austria, fifth in the USA Pro Cycling Championships, Time Trials and seventh in the Road Race. In 2009,
Busche was fifth in the USA Pro Cycling Championships, seventh overall in the Tour of Utah and was at ninth position at the Univest Grand Prix.
He is hopeful that with the coming Tour of Spain and believes that it’s a good chance to test his skills as he accepted that he is still in the learning phase and there is a long way to go for him as he mentioned, “I hope I get to do the Vuelta this year
that would be a big goal, a big dream for me.”  
He further added, “I think I have the potential to do better in the sport, but there’s still a long way to go in terms of learning mentally, physically and simply gaining more experience.”
Vuelta a Espana this year will start on August 20 in Benidrom and the race will conclude in Madrid.
Vuelta a Espana 2011 will start with a 16 kilometre time trial and will conclude on September 11 in Madrid.
