Winner predictions at The Barclays (Part 2)
PGA tournament, The Barclays, tees off at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey from the 26th August -29th August carrying a purse amount of US$ 7.5 million.
Here is an expert preview and prediction for The Barclays and it includes players who will most likely top the final day of the leader board.
David Toms
The first name on the list, David Toms, has a record of repeating top 5 finishes. He finished at first, fifth, and fifth position for three consecutive weeks at different events followed by third and second position finishes in 2005. Following the same pattern in 2006 with a second and third finish in two consecutive weeks, David Toms entered the year 2007 with a third and fifth spot finish in two consecutive events.
However, this year he posted his first top 5 finish at Sedgefield last week which means he is due for another top 5 finish this week at the Ridgewood Country Club.
As far as his achievements are concerned, David Tom is a 12-time winner on the PGA tour but his recent performance at the Whistling Straits was not quite satisfactory with a closing 75. However, he overcame concentration problems in the next Championship at Wyndham and finished second.
David Tom’s stats show he is the 6th best in Driving Accuracy this season and the 37th in Putting scores, which means there are some good chances that the player will be on the top of the leader board. Not to forget Tom won the PGA tour event in 2001 at the Atlanta Athletic Club, which is known for its extremely long pars. Moreover, he was the 10th at Baltusrol in 2005, but he missed the cut in 2008.
Jeff Overton
The second player on the list, Jeff Overton, is on the Ryder Cup team for 2010 because of his consistent performances throughout the season, although, he did not have a single victory.
Accepting the fact that he didn’t have any victories this season, he was very close and it is clear from his Greenbrier Classic performance, where he posted a score of 67, he has winning potential. Although, his achievements were over shadowed by Stuart Appleby’s magnificent 59, his success cannot be ignored.
Moreover, this 27-year-old has five top three finishers this season which puts him in the 4th spot of the money list with $3 million and eighth rank according to the Official World Golf Ranking. According to media reports, Jeff Overton has tremendous amount of potential and it can be seen from his top 12 finishes in 5 events out of 7, including 7th at St Andrews and 5th in WGC- Bridgestone Invitational.
Sean O’ Hair
The last man on the list is Sean O’ Hair. His statement at the Firestone Country Club, that he was confident over his game as he had been playing some solid golf recently, resounded across golfing circles. Although he missed the cut at Whistling Straits last week, his last three playoffs were spectacular with 8-4-3 results.
Concluding winner predictions at The Barclays, that is talking place at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey. The event will be spectacular, as some of the best golfers of the World, including Justin Ross, Padraig Harington, Phil Mickelson and David Tom will be taking part. This is the penultimate event of the season for the US PGA tour which means that at the end of the fourth round, Corey Pavin will finally draft his team for the Ryder Cup. Good luck to him!
