(ODI) cricket as well.
The Poms defeated the Men in Blue by six wickets in the last match of the ODI series on the 16th of September, 2011 and won the series 3-0 as a result.
Historically, England has not been a great team in ODI cricket and always felt comfortable playing the longer version of the sport. England is yet to win an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 and company in the
ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 was pathetic as they were beaten by minnows like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
However, Strauss retired from limited overs cricket after the World Cup and decided to concentrate on only Test cricket. As a result, Cook was appointed as the captain of the English ODI team, although he was considered as a Test specialist before this season.
The left-hander has not looked back since then as he had a brilliant series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and then against India, both as a captain and as an opening batsman.
Cook is very happy with his team’s performance in the limited overs series and said that some of the youngsters in the squad have a bright future ahead of them. The left-hander vows that the series victories against India and Sri Lanka are just the beginning
and his team wants to attain the number one ranking in ODI cricket as well.
The English captain said, "It's all about developing these young players, giving them a chance at international level, and there are some good signs for the future. This is the start of a journey. I know how hungry the lads are, to play as well as we have
done to chase that target has been very satisfying. I'm really excited about the challenge of the winter tours."
