“Winning all four majors is impossible next year,” says Rafael Nadal
The top ranked Spaniard Rafael Nadal insists that his chances for capturing all the four major titles next year are quite bleak at the moment.
“I hope to have the chances to win four Grand Slam trophies next season. However for me, that is impossible. I will try to keep playing well but the Grand Slam is not the case. That is for sure impossible, I think,” said the twenty
four year old Rafa at the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Monday.
The left hander has had a phenomenal season as he captured the French Open crown earlier in May after getting the better of Robin Soderling from Sweden in the title battle at Roland Garros. The world number one next won his second
grass court Grand Slam title in England after surpassing Tomas Berdych in the finals back in July.
At the year’s final Grand Slam tournament, the United States Open in New York, the Spaniard was the top seed on the second occasion in three years. He dismissed Denis Istomin, Teymuraz Gabashvili, Gilles Simon, Feliciano Lopez,
Fernando Verdasco and Mikhail Youzhny without even missing a single set to make his way into the final in Flushing Meadows. In the title battle, Rafa dispatched off Novak Djokovic of Serbia in four sets to complete his career Grand Slam and become the second
player after Andre Agassi to achieve the feat. The final match score was 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–2.
Next Rafael competed at the PTT Thailand Open Men’s singles competition where he made his way into the semi final round before being upset at the hands of Guillermo Garcia Lopez in Bangkok. The 1.85 meter tall player once again
managed to regroup and at the championship in Rakuten Japan Open tennis tournament played some great tennis during his title battle against Gael Monfils in straight sets. It was his seventh trophy of the year.
When questioned what the world number 1, Rafael Nadal attributes his stellar year to, the Spaniard said, “I was able to be almost all the time at my hundred per cent. Last year and the beginning of this was difficult and hard for
me. So maybe for that reason I was able to push hard in all the championships, play with one hundred percent of motivation and try one hundred per cent in every moment.”
Nadal further added that he wants to continue his form and win as many tournaments as possible and play at his very best in the next couple of months as well. The twenty four year old Rafa is looking quite healthy at the moment and is not facing any injury
issues in spite of the fact that he is an injury prone player. The Spaniard however believes that nothing is forever and so he wants to enjoy his top level of game to the fullest.
One week ago, he captured his 43rd tour-level crown of the season at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis tournament in Tokyo. His excellent form and game is definitely going to be a major threat for the rest of the players on the tour
in the next season as well, provided that he remains fit.
The owner of nine Grand Slam crowns, Rafael Nadal is attempting to finish the season by winning all the remaining three tournaments and will definitely try his level best achieve his goal.
Rafa will play at the ATP Barclays World Tour Finals in November as his last competition of the season. The Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic from Serbia have also successfully qualified for the year ending
event in London.
