Winning for New York Mets more satisfying for David Wright than any other team - MLB Update
As the New York Mets formally reveal their agreement with David Wright, third baseman believes winning matches for this club is far more pleasing to him than for any other team.
Wright is ecstatic over winning a contract, which has made him a part of the Mets for life.
Becoming a part of the list of a very few players that began and wound up their careers with only one organisation is great for Wright. Majority of the players in Major League Baseball keep changing clubs.
Those individuals that have deep connections with the club and considered as a source of pride for the team are retained by their organisations for longer time periods. Along with it, they enjoy an endless loyalty of the fans with them.
Instead of being booed off for switching to some other team, they are respected all their life by the fans.
Unlike Jose Reyes who endured being mocked by the Mets’ fans after moving to the Miami Marlins, Wright can enter the field next year assured of being acknowledged as the face of the franchise.
Before a contract extension, rumours were arising from various quarters that if he is not offered a worthwhile deal by the club, he will prefer testing free agency.
That led the fans to doubt the intentions of Wright. The possibility that he is not honest while he says he wants to become a part of the Mets for good dawned on them.
Right now, the fans must have no doubt in their mind as Wright went out of his way to ascertain the deal is signed by him with the club.
"I grew up watching Cal Ripken Jr., playing against Chipper Jones for these number of years, being across town from Derek Jeter. I think there's something to be said for that. And I'm very proud of that -- to be able to be drafted at 18 by this organization,
groomed, developed, make your big league debut with your favorite team growing up, having the opportunity for my friends and family to almost start bleeding blue and orange,” Wright said.
Wright will be looking to vindicate the trust shown by his organisation in him in the form of consistent performances next year.
