Winning gold medal at SEA Games is an uphill task but we are ready, says Woon Khe Wei
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles player, Woon Khe Wei says that winning the gold medal in Indonesia at the SEA Games will not be easy as all top Indonesian shuttlers will be there to win glory. The event will take place at Jakarta, Indonesia, in November, 2011.
Woon Khe, with the partnership of Vivian Kah Mun Hoo grabbed the Women’s Doubles title at the 2011 Indonesia Open GP Gold, which ended last week in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The Malaysian made their presence felt by defeating higher ranked and seeded opponents in their way to win the title. Their stunning performance at the Indonesia Open has pushed them in the row of the main contenders for the title at the SEA Games.
Woon Khe and Vivian, who have jumped 18 spots and reached at Number 42 position in the Women’s Doubles world rankings, are the future hope for the country as there is no other young pair in the women’s squad who could put up a strong show against top shuttlers
in the world.
In the last edition of SEA Games, Woon Khe won gold medal with the partnership of Ng h*i Lin. Now, she is determined to repeat history and clinch the SEA gold medal with Vivian.
Nevertheless, it will be an uphill task for the Malaysians to perform well in the event as there will be a huge support of the home crowd for their Indonesian opponents. Woon Khe said, “We are aiming for a medal but it is not going to be easy winning the
gold. Indonesia will have full support and we hope we can cope with the pressure.”
She further added, “I have played in the Sea Games before and have gold to show but playing in Jakarta will be different. The crowd can crack the confidence of players and this will be our biggest challenge.”
Woon Khe and Vivian are high in spirit, especially after winning the title at the Grand Prix Gold event in Indonesia. If they remain physically and mentally strong, they again can spoil the party of all top seeds at the SEA Games.
