Winning is a Girlsbestfriend in A8 race at Romford
The Romford Greyhound Stadium in Romford was rocking last night with some thrilling 400m greyhound racing action. The dogs were eager to please the racing fans in attendance, and please them they did with some great races.
The action got off to a superb start in the first race of the night, an A8 race held at 18:39. Girlsbestfriend (8-1) proved to be the best friend of many racing fans, as he won the race with a great 25.27 finish out of trap five. He dominated the race by holding an early pace, and eventually led first for the victory.
Girlsbestfriend was not the favourite to win, though. The dog with that honour was Archers Ruby, who came in second. Pre-race odds staked him at 9-4, but his chances at winning were reduced after he baulked first. He came back to run on and finish in 25.35, which was only one length behind the top spot.
First place was off limits for third-place finisher Off Limits (4-1). He completed the race in 25.39, which put him a mere ½ length behind Archers Ruby. Alrita Jane (5-1) ran to a fourth-place finish, clocking in with a time of 25.47, one length behind third place.
Matching Alrita Jane’s 25.47 finish by a shoulder was Twinkle Twinkle (5-2). He was no little star in this race, as he placed fifth. Sixth place was no delight for Alexs Delight (8-1), who was 1¾ lengths behind Twinkle Twinkle in 25.61.
The A6 race at 18:56 featured joint 11-4 favourites in Runsheen Bomber and Beat Them James. Both dogs failed to deliver the predicted results, as neither one was able to claim first place. A 7-2 long shot Uncle Benny beat them both, and took first place with a great finishing time of 24.80. Coming out of trap one, Uncle Benny held an early pace, and later led second to earn the win.
Be Lucky (4-1) was lucky to finish second in 24.84, placing him only a ½ length behind Uncle Benny. Third place went to Runsheen Bomber, one of the favourites. His 24.90 finish was ¾ lengths behind the number two position.
In fourth place was Kingsmill Lucy (3-1), who was 2½ lengths behind Runsheen Bomber with a time of 25.10. Allowdale Magico’s (5-1) race was hampered when he baulked second, giving him a fifth-place finish in 25.46, 4½ lengths behind fourth.
Finishing in last place was Beat Them James, the other co-favourite. He failed to live up to his name and finished the race in 25.58, 1 ½ lengths behind fifth place.
Following the A6 race was an A5 race at 19:11. This race featured a dominating performance by pre-race favourite Borna Shabra. Carrying 7-4 odds into trap two, she led third after holding an early pace. A 24.89 finish cemented the victory for her.
Ivys Rocky (3-1) was 1¾ lengths behind Borna Shabra to lay claim on second place. He finished the race in 25.03. The number three spot belonged to Something Else (6-1), who had something else on mind as he moved slowly away from the pack. He finished 1¼ lengths behind second place with a time of 25.13.
Jolly Dave (5-1) was anything but jolly after his fourth-place finish. Missing a break resulted in his 25.17 finish, putting him a ½ length behind Something Else. Placing fifth was Somers Boy (6-1), who finished two lengths behind fourth place with a time of 25.33, despite holding an early place.
Windgap Venus failed to close the gap on the completion, as she came in sixth by a shoulder’s length. Her 25.33 finishing time equalled that of fifth-place dog Somers Boy.
Romford Greyhound Stadium will be home to more great greyhound racing tomorrow evening. The action gets underway with an A2 race at 19:30.
