Winning style in Pool acceptable or not?

ok..! you may say that my question sounds funny...well, you can laugh and go ahead and laugh.

Anyway I ask this question wondering if Pool enthusiasts really like the winning style of this game including the applied rule to it. Well, let me tell you my thought about this matter...

Scoring to win or what so ever way to win the Pool seems complicated to me....In 9 ball game for example, when your opponent miss the 9 ball it doesn't automatically make you a winner or a loser. If you want to win the 9 ball game you need to pot the 9...thus you should show you make all the ball as possible...If you think like this, maybe you will understand what I'm talking about. Let me compare this game to Tennis.

In Tennis you can gain and lose score even if your opponent miss the ball from opposite side...( remember the rule?)

Thus winning is not directly depended in your skill.....unlike in Pool.... I hope all of you understand my thought....

go on think about this...and give me your opinion.

  1. Both Dave & Eightbreaker are correct.

Here's another example from a match I saw.

Double elimination. A 9-rated player drew a 2-rated player the first round.

The '9' rated player breaks open the rack, makes a ball and runs the first eight balls. He hangs the '9' in the corner pocket. His opponent, the '2' rated player, pockets the '9' for the win.

The fact that the first player made 8 balls means nothing except a loss of game.

In the second game, the 2-rated player broke, made nothing and the '9' rated player runs seven balls, and hangs the '8'.

The 2-rated guy makes the '8' and '9' balls for the win.

So one player pocketed 15 balls and lost the match to a guy that made only three balls. But they were the ones that counted.

  2. Style is irrelevant. If you win based on the rules, the you win. How is happens doesn't matter.

  3. I'm not really understanding your question too well. If I scratch on the 8 ball my opponent wins, regardless of his skill level , right?

  4. In golf if your opponent misses a put it wouldn't make you automatically a winner, you'd still have to shoot under his score.

In Football if your opponent misses a field goal there are no points awarded to you.

In Baseball if you rob your opponent from a homerun, you get nothing but a clip on ESPN.

If your opponent throws a gutter ball while bowling, no trophy is awarded to you.

I guess I'm just not following your thought presses here.  To win a game of 9 ball you must pocket the 9 unless your opponent forfeits the game to you.  Simple as that.  Keep rackn em up!
