Winning the Africa Open – Louis Oosthuizen style!
The fourth round of the 2011 Africa Open ended after a tough three-way playoff to side with Louis Oosthuizen on the 9th of January.
After a break of over 5 months, Oosthuizen has now become the three-time winner of the European Tour. The world number 21 grabbed the victory on his home ground on Sunday after his past victory from the British Open 2010.
According to statistics, the 28-year-old golfer won the Africa open after carding a 276 on the leader board as well as a sudden death playoff on the 18th hole.
The fourth round of the tournament observed Oosthuizen carding a 3-under-par after his one massive eagle on the fields. The golfer adorned his score card with a total of 2 birdies and one eagle.
As for the blemish, there was only one blue mark for a bogey.
Overall, Oosthuizen scored a 70 to set up a winning chase for the others. He carded the brilliant eagle at the 15th hole that increased the pressure on other golfers and attained the yellow mark after a decent inbound
play.
With one yellow and 8 pars from the inbound, the outbound had been a bit more colourful for the South African. Oosthuizen carded two birdies at hole number 3 and 6 while a minor blemish appeared at the 9th hole as a
bogey.
The Outbound ended with a 36 for the golfer while the inbound ended with a score of 34 on Sunday.
As for the extra hole, Oosthuizen appeared against Chris Wood and Manuel Quiros from Britain and Spain to decide the three-way playoff.
The two golfers were striving for their first European win as compared to Oosthuizen’s now three.
Reports from East London GC state that the 28-year-old golfer carded a 70 to chase Wood and Quiros on the leaderboard. Wood and Quiros had a score of 68 and 69 in their score cards and were catering a 16 under the par in total.
"It was just great. I played a sand-wedge to get near the flagstick which made way for the winning putt” said Oosthuizen.
The final putt had been a bit calm for the Open Champion which led to a rather loud roar of success. It had been a birdie putt at the par 4, 18th hole that Oosthuizen grabbed. Wood played a chipped stroke that led to
a par of 4 after Quiros’ chip marked his card for a four as well.
Oosthuizen’s highest score was after the 1st and 4th round of the tournament where he scored a 70 while the second and third round resulted in a 67 and a 69 for the lead and a win at the Africa Open 2011.
