In my opinion there is no such thing as "winning the war in Iraq." What are we trying to defeat?? Terrorists?. In order to stop terrorism you would have to get rid of everyone with their mind set and mentality. That is impossible. For example, do people actually believe that if we found bin laden and killed him and his followers that terrorism would be over. As long as one person still follows his ideals a new group will emerge and attempt to terrorize the world. As long as we stay in Iraq, the worse it will become, as this will anger them even more. I am not saying that we shouldn't defend or protect ourselves, but winning this war is questionable. First, define winning. Is winning stopping terrorism. Well, to win you must finish them all off; hardly possible and at what expense. Withdrawing from Iraq in a responsible way is the smart and intelligent thing to do, not the "cowardly" thing to do (as I read someone say). How is staying in Iraq preventing future attacks? We should spend the money on more law inforcement and security measures at home instead.

  1. According to Bush and Co.

  2. yes we are

  3. Wow you really don’t understand every society even ours goes through war all the time. People in the US don’t realize just how many police actions and wars we have been in the past 200 years, how many naval bases we have around the world.  Rule of war #1 an offense is better than defense. Rule #2 Don’t fight in your country. After 911 would you rather the battle be in NY? You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Countries go to war ALL the time.  If you don’t recognize that you are a democrat who likes to ignore the reality and very nature of war in place of a warm and fuzzy view.

  4. You don't have to get rid of everyone with that mindset, just the ones with the means and capability of following through with the threats. There are a lot of those types still out there, and it will take forever to win this war. Do you really want your grandchildren to fight it though?

  5. You have it well thought out and I hope you stick to your beliefs and don't let the flag waving war mongers that use the tired old argument -"it's better to fight them over there instead of here" -wear you down. This war in Iraq was misplanned and fought since day one. We sent the finest men and women soldiers and marines, Air Force and Navy into a buzz saw that's been spinning for 2000 years! They have been courageously battling over in Iraq in Bushes war for a myth that we, the Americans are so great that we can do what no one else ever has in the last 2000 years - make a cohesive democracy out of Iraq.  Even McCain has said, much to his supporter's horror, that "we will be over there for 100 years". Hopefully, we will get change at the top soon and we will do what you have suggested - tell the Iraqis "we gave it a shot and you don't want peace or a unified country, so long BUT -we will be in the neighborhood to make sure you guys don't s***w up your neighbors or the all important pipeline of oil to the west"

ps...I went to "MY" war a long time ago to make sure "we didn't have to fight the communists over here" Guess what? there never was any threat of THAT happening, the "domino theory" remains a theory and communism collapsed of it's own weight. And guess who was in charge of THAT fiasco? Why none other than an old Bush family friend -Robert S. McNamara!

I sure am disappointed that my war to prevent this war didn't work out and the war I didn't want my kids to have to fight is being fought - only due to old men who have NEVER served themselves getting us into them. Sign me  -Disgusted and ready for change
