Winnipeg Jets’ Evander Kane released by Dynamo Minsk of the KHL because of bad form
Evander Kane, a Canadian professional ice hockey player and a forward who plays as a left winger for Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League (NHL), was released by Dynamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) due to his bad form.
The 21 year old player was brought to Russia by the Minsk side because of the lockout of NHL players and thinking that they could utilize the top form of young player in their league but the plan failed and Kane could not deliver the performance which was
expected from him.
The Vancouver, British Columbia native could score only one point in the 12 games that he played and that was a goal. He failed to register even a single assist to his name, so it was enough for Belarusian team to get rid of him and let him go. With 47 penalty
minutes, Kane was a minus 8 player.
Dynamo Minsk team’s athletic director, Igor Matushkin revealed that the step has been taken after a mutual consent and mainly because the player could not settle in the team and the new conditions. As the departure of the player was announced, Matushkin
said,
“Unfortunately, Evander Kane could not adapt to hockey in the KHL”.
Craig Oster, the agent of the player also had a say as he disclosed that the style of training and playing was too different for the player and it did not suit him. He said,
"I've spoken to Evander and he just found the hockey to be different. The style to be different, the training to be different. I think the coaching was a challenge at times. This arrangement didn't have a set time limit. It was a month-to-month deal. For
both sides it felt like it had run its course."
It was Kane’s amazing performance last year which earned him a big contract at Jets and a call from KHL side but now he would how to go back and work on his game once again. He had scored 30 goals and 27 assists last year for total of 57 points in 74 games.
His six year contract was worth $31.5 million.
