Winnipeg Jets’ Jason Jaffray signs with St. John’s IceCaps in the American Hockey League
Canadian professional ice hockey player, Jason Jaffray who plays in the position of left winger, has signed a new contract with St. John’s IceCaps in the American Hockey League (AHL). He had played last season for Winnipeg Jets as well.
The 31-year-old forward, who previously played for Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks in the NHL, had previously signed a one-year contract with the same organisation for $675,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL. But terms and conditions of the latest
contract were not disclosed by anyone.
The Rimbey, Alberta native was also cleared by the doctor. He was very happy to sign the contract and on being cleared by the doctor as he said,
“Not too bad for one day. I signed a contract and also was cleared by the surgeon for light contact”.
Jaffrey had a surgery four months back and he was given a recovery period of six months but he has recovered exceptionally well and so early that he wants to be part a training camp and join the team soon. He also added,
“I have had a couple of minor setbacks. Nothing serious, just little reminders that I had neck surgery too long ago”.
The 6-foot-1, 204 pounder wants to be ready before their first game of the season which is just five days before his recovery period ends so he is really looking forward to be a part of it.
“I was told there is a six-month recovery time, which if you went by the exact date from my surgery, would mean Oct. 18. But I saw the new (AHL) schedule and that (the IceCaps’) first game is Oct. 13, so I’d like to be ready then.”
Jaffrey is few of the players who go undrafted but still make their mark in the NHL as he made his debut for Vancouver Canucks in 2007-2008 season and played 19 games, scored two goals and four assists. Next season he played 14 games and scored 2 goals,
2 assists for four points and changed his side by shifting to Calgary Flames next season. He could not score any point there but he managed to get one point last season for Winnipeg Jets and would be looking to get more.
