Winnipeg Jets Spending Time during Lockout playing for Charity -NHL Update
While the National Hockey League (NHL) may be going through one of its worst lockouts in recent years, the Winnipeg Jets are spending their time playing in charitable events to keep the action going and benefit a group at the same time.
For captain Andrew Ladd and the Winnipeg Jets squad, this is the time to be giving back to the community as they have a free schedule for now. The Jets took part in a number of events these past few days like the Champs for Charity event at Allstate Arena
in Rosemont, III.
Another event is set to take off by the name of Goals for Dream Hockey Challenge, that will kick off on November 17 at the Max Bell Arena.
Winnipeg finds these opportunities to be drastically crucial in keeping them active and ongoing in hockey instead of waiting around for the lockout to come to an end.
“It’s good for us, it breaks up the schedule of skating and practicing every day,” said Ladd, according to the Winnipeg Sun.
“To be able to use this time wisely and put it towards a good cause and to give our fans an opportunity to see us play again, it’s going to be fun.”
Boston Pizza’s all around the area will be selling tickets to the event, which will be going for $20 apiece.
“I’m not gonna make promises, we’ll do our best to use our contacts and friends around the league to try to come up here and put on a show for the city of Winnipeg,” added Ladd. “We want to win, it’s within us all, we’re all competitors. I think fans like
to see when guys are giving it their best effort and having fun.”
Last season was the Jets first in Winnipeg after being relocated from Atlanta as the Thrashers and made a significant run by almost reaching the playoffs, but were eliminated from the race by a few points. Next year will be highly important for the Jets
as they look forward to making it count and hopefully for the fans, make the postseason and bring back the hockey action to Winnipeg.
