Winnipeg Jets Zach Bogosian out for 4-6 months with wrist surgery -NHL Update
Zach Bogosian of the Winnipeg Jets will most likely not be with his franchise for the next National Hockey League (NHL) regular season if a lockout does not come into play, due to being advised 4-6 months of rest after having surgery on his right wrist to
repair a torn ligament.
The defenseman underwent surgery on Friday, August 31, 2012, which was performed at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, by Dr. Thomas Graham.
Winnipeg Jets medical team is confident that the successful surgery was the best option for the defender and should have him back to playing after the prescribed resting period comes to an end.
"After speaking with Dr. Thomas Graham this morning, surgery on the chronic ligament tear in the right wrist of Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian was successful," Jets head physician, Dr. Peter MacDonald, said in a statement released by the team. "The
prognosis for a return to hockey from this type of surgery is typically between four and six months."
Drafted as the third overall player back in round-one of the 2008 NJL Entry Draft by Atlanta Thrashers, Bosogian was part of the team when it was bought out and changed into the Jets up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
He has played a total of 264 games and has 89 points (29 goals, 60 assists) under his belt, which make him one of the best defenders on the club and crucial for their performance this hockey year as they set goals of making the playoffs.
Winnipeg Jets general manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff was also relieved at the fact that he finally got it behind him and could start focusing on other aspects of his game for  better performance next time around.
"We are pleased the procedure on Zach's right wrist was successful this morning," GM Cheveldayoff said. "This wrist has been an issue which has troubled him for the past couple of seasons dating back to his time in Atlanta and forced him to miss games with
the Jets last season.
Updates should be expected in the upcoming weeks while the Winnipeg Jets will continue updating the media on his status.
