Winnipeg Jets and Evander Kane still not talking on contract with looming lockout -NHL Update
Why the Winnipeg Jets and Evander Kane have not signed a contract during the length offseason is still a confusion for many people and especially for the fans that are eccentric about whether they will keep him on the squad or not with the upcoming regular
season being under serious threat of a lockout.
Understanding why the Jets management is keeping silent on the matter and not discussing what their plans are has most people making rough guesses along with rumours coming out of the hatch about Kane being possible signed on by another team.
The 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season was his last and brought his three-year, $2.7 million deal to an end after it paid him $900,000 a season and $2.2 million in potential bonuses, annually.
Why Kane has been silent, it is because he is not directly part of the negotiations going on behind closed doors at the moment with the Jets management, at least according to him.
He talked to reporters while signing autographs for hundreds of fans lined up inside a local game store where he was to officially launce Electronic Arts’ NHL 13 video game.
“All of that speculation kind of followed throughout the entire season and that’s exactly what it was,” Kane said. “I’m not going to talk about anything in the future or any contract type of stuff. That’s between my agent and Winnipeg to sort something out.”
Last season was definitely a breakthrough for the former fourth overall pick of the 2009 draft pick by the Atlanta Thrashers and with 57 points (30 goals, 27 assists) in 74 games played, Kane remains a crucial part of the Jets squad and carries with him
even more potential.
“Absolutely, there’s a lot of growth and a lot of room to improve,” said Kane. “I’m trying to become a better hockey player — continuing to work on my shot, my skating, passing, everything. I’m going to be a better player this season and I’m going to continue
to become a better player after every summer.”
Updates should be expected in the upcoming days, before the current CBA comes to an end, about the players new deal.
