Winnipeg Jets blast past Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in Overtime -NHL Update
When a team plays with heart and soul, there is nothing that can stop them and Winnipeg Jets are a prime example for that. The Jets, despite being down by two points midway through the second, kept pushing and managed to make a comeback, blasting through
Carolina Hurricanes with a 4-3 overtime win Friday night, March 30, 2012, at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Veteran Winnipeg forward and captain, Andrew Ladd, was all set to score his 100th career goal of his career and he certainly did it in a huge way. Ladd potted his 25th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and
career 100th on Cam Ward for the overtime win 16 seconds into the post-regulation period.
"It's always fun to score against Ward," said Ladd. "We're good buddies but we're very competitive. It's always fun to get the upper hand. So I'll get bragging rights for the summer at least."
Nik Antropov added the first of the night 2:23 into the first followed by two straight from Carolina’s Derek Joslin and Eric Staal, the second being on a shorthanded situation with Tim Gleason out with double minors.
Rookie Carolina forward, Brandon Sutter, contributed with his 16th of the year at 3:49 into round two while Jim Slater managed to make it a one point game again midway through.
Kyle Wellwood emerged as the lifeline for Winnipeg as he capitalised on a power play advantage for their first goal of the night with an extra skater on board, forcing the overtime extension with less than five minutes to go.
"We're trying to develop a culture here of showing up and working your (rear end) off ... every day," Ladd added. "It's one of those things that ... it's got to become an everyday thing where everyone shows up, knows they have to work hard or they're not
going to play."
Winnipeg snapped a three-game losing streak which certainly has killed off hope for entry into the playoffs, which now seems impossible of a task. Jets will continue rolling as they have the next in Tampa Bay against Lightning on Saturday.
Carolina Hurricanes have the next at home against New Jersey Devils the same day.
