Winnipeg Jets closer to postseason dream with rebound win over Dallas Stars 5-2 -NHL Update
Winnipeg just got a little bit closer to realising their postseason dreams as the Jets rebounded after two straight losses over the Dallas Stars, 5-2, on Wednesday night, March 14, 2012, at the sold-out MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Andrew Ladd emerged as the leading force for Winnipeg and contributed in a major way to help the Jets bounce back from their two-game loss against their Canadian rivals, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames.
Nik Antropov kicked off the scoring with the 11th goal of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season 2:21 into the opening period. Both teams were careful not to give any penalties in the first period, keeping the competition at bay and without a single power play opportunity.
Evander Kane added to that with his 28th of the year, followed by Eric Fehr on the breakaway to grab his second of the season unassisted. Andrew Ladd grabbed two straight, including one on the power play, taking the lead for the home team to 5-0 with less than four minutes remaining in round-two.
Loui Eriksson was the only scorer for Dallas during the contest as he scored their first at 16:29 into the second and nearly 20 minutes later in the next, but his hard work failed to pay off with his teammates failing to score at every turn.
Ondrej Pavelec faced 30 shots throughout the contest playing in front of the Winnipeg net and failed on only two attempts. Richard Bachman on the other hand, had 28 attempts on his net and blocked 23.
Kari Lehtonen was given a chance to rest by the Dallas management. The goalie who has been the leading force for the Stars in their past matchups, resting him turned out to hurt the team instead.
Winnipeg is now only four points away from tying eighth place Washington Capitals for the final playoff spot. Jets have the next against Capitals on Friday at home, which will certainly be for an exciting time.
Dallas Stars will be returning home for the next as they host Western Conference rival team Chicago Blackhawks on the same day.
