Winnipeg Jets’ defenseman Zach Bogosian to undergo surgery after chronic ligament tear right wrist
Zach Bogosian, an American international ice hockey player, would undergo a surgery after he suffered an injury. The announcement was made by team management on Thursday that surgery would be done on Friday. He is expected to miss some games after the surgery.
The surgery on Zach Bogosian will be performed by Dr. Thomas Graham, a native of Eastern Ohio. The surgery would be done in Cleveland.
Winnipeg Jets’ head physician, Dr. Peter MacDonald had told in a statement, which was released by the team, that there was problem with his right wrist as he had suffered a chronic ligament tear. MacDonald’s statement said,
"Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian has been diagnosed with a chronic ligament tear in his right wrist".
According to him this happened to him in the off-season during some practice and he was not able to give his best because of that, as he added,
“During offseason training, Zach experienced discomfort and was limited in his performance.''
Bogosian, a 22-year-old player who plays as a defenseman, had started his hockey career in HS-MA with Cushing Academy Penguins in 2004-2005 at the age of 14. He played there for two years before moving to Peterborough Petes of Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
in 2006-2007 season.
At Peterborough, in the first season his performance was average as he scored seven goals, 26 assists and 33 points in 67 games. But his performance in the second season was great as he scored at an average of more than one point per game. He scored 11 goals,
50 assists for total of 61 points in 60 games.
This performance earned him a call from Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League (NHL) and he was drafted 3rd overall in the first round of the 2008 NHL draft by them. He made his NHL debut in 2008-2009 season, scoring 19 points in the
47 games, scoring nine goals and ten assists.
His three year’s contract with Thrashers expired in 2011 and then he signed a new deal with Winnipeg Jets, which was for two years and $5 million.
Over all in NHL, the Massena, New York native has played 264 games, scoring 29 goals and 60 assists for total of 89 points.
