Winnipeg Jets disrupt Carey Price's comeback with 4-0 thrashing of Montreal Canadiens -NHL Update
The Winnipeg Jets were not affected by Carey Price returning in the Montreal net at all as they still thrashed the Canadiens by scoring four goals and goalie, Ondrej Pavelec, blocking all 27 shots on his net to shut them out, 4-0, Thursday night, December
22, 2011, at the sold-out MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
There were a lot of Montreal fans in the arena as well which were trying to boost Carey Price’s morale throughout the contest, but failed as the Canadiens faced one of their most disappointing losses of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular
season.
"He was left to his own devices at times," newly hired Montreal coach, Randy Cunneyworth, said of Price, "and he was doing all he can to stop that puck. We've got to be better in front of him."
Montreal is now on a five-game losing streak, which has put them in the 12th number spot in the Eastern Conference, below their Canadien rivals Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets.
"We realize what's going on," Cunneyworth added. "We've got to work a little bit harder. We have to have a little more balance in our line up. I think obviously it comes down to competing, being a little more physical and having some resolve. I think it's
about sticking together."
Blake Wheeler added his fourth of the regular season on their first and only power play opportunity of the opening period while Tanner Glass extended the lead nearly 10 minutes later, also for his fourth, putting Winnipeg ahead, 2-0, entering the mid 20
minute period.
Wheeler added his second of the night quickly, only 39 seconds into the second period which totally destroyed the Montreal momentum in order to attempt a comeback while Tim Stapleton, on an assist from Wheeler, secured the match and took it beyond reach
of Montreal by scoring their fourth straight at the 17:36 mark in the last period.
The Jets are playing much better and look determined as they prepare to face-off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday while Montreal has a lot of catching up to do and hope to do some against Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
