Winnipeg Jets get fourth straight against Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 -NHL Update
Winnipeg seems to have gotten back on track with their fourth straight win, their longest in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season so far, as the Jets dominated the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2, on Friday night, December 9, 2011, at the sold-out
MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, United States.
Carolina had finally managed to snap their seven-game losing streak against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday but had all the fun spoiled by a determined Winnipeg team.
"If we can get this to be a tough place to play in, which it obviously is, then it's going to be huge for us," said Jets winger, Blake Wheeler, who picked up three assists against Carolina "I think our biggest challenge is going to try to be to play that
same game on the road."
Dustin Byfuglien came in strong with scoring on his mind and potted the opening goal only 34 seconds into the initial period for his sixth of the season while Evander Kane added his 15th nearly five minutes later to extend the Winnipeg lead, both
which were assisted and setup by Blake Wheeler.
"Playing in this League," Carolina coach, Kirk Muller said, "there's a very thin margin [between] wins and losses. That's what the guys have to learn -- that the details of the game are very important. I don't think that we came out with the same bite in
our game that we did in Edmonton."
Tim Stapleton and Bryan Little added two straight nearly a minute apart, both on power play opportunities, giving the Winnipeg Jets a commanding 4-0 lead entering the third and final period of regulation.
Carolina tried to make a comeback in the third 20 minute period as Justin Faulk potted his first of the season while Brandon Sutter capitalised for their first power play opportunity of the night, but the Hurricanes failed to score any more after that.
Winnipeg will certainly be looking for their fifth straight victory of the season as they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday before returning home for six straight contests while Carolina has to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
