Winnipeg Jets uncover new primary and secondary team logo –NHL offseason Update
Winnipeg Jets are not done yet with all the formalities that go along with relocating a National Hockey League (NHL) franchise to another city. The relocated Atlanta Thrashers club might not have changed the original Winnipeg team name, but they surely know
how to impress and unveiled a new logo for the team.
Playing along with the Jets names, the Winnipeg hockey club, in partnership with Reebok and the NHL developed a logo which was reportedly inspired by the logo of the Royal Canadian Air Force. It can be noticed in the logo with have a maple leaf beneath a
fighter jet plane and goes well in combination.
"Our desire was to authenticate the name and make it as meaningful as we possibly could", Jets co-owner Mark Chipman said.
Before uncovering the logo to the public and hockey fans all around the world, Winnipeg was stalled with the decision which could put their new club in turmoil if people did not find it attractive. Fortunately, even those who were familiar with the old logo,
felt this was a fresh start for a fresh team.
"True North Sports & Entertainment felt it was important for the new Winnipeg Jets to develop a strong new identity", said Mark Chipman, Chairman and Governor of True North Sports & Entertainment. "We felt it was important to authenticate the name Jets and
we believe the new logo does that through its connection to (Canada's) remarkable Air Force heritage, including the rich history and relationship that our city and province have enjoyed with the Canadian Forces".
As soon as the logo was unveiled at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg by Chipman who himself officially uncovered the new design, fans could be seen all over the city wanting to purchase as much merchandise necessary and stood in lines at every possible outlet.
Some might prefer the old logo over the new, but according to the management, this team has gotten a new start, so it also deserves a new logo. The next season, which will be Winnipeg’s first in over 10 years, is up against Montreal Canadiens in October,
which is surely an event not worth missing.
