Winnipeg Jets unveil new playing jerseys, gain fain appreciation –NHL offseason Update
It is finally here, the new Winnipeg Jets playing jersey’s, which were the most expected thing after the relocated Atlanta Thrashers franchise turned into the retro Winnipeg Jets as announced by the new ownership group, True North Sports and Entertainment.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the 17 Wing Winnipeg, a local Canadian Air Force personnel base, on Tuesday, September 6. Hundreds of invited guests were present at the moment as players came forward while wearing the new team jersey’s for the first
time publicly.
Winnipeg Jets general manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, was especially excited at the event which had fans waiting for so long and some even going to the extent of buying fake ones beforehand.
“The lines are clean, the colours are very sharp and the logo is very distinct”, said Jets general manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff. “Very simplistic, yet very complex. It can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people”.
Carrying a new logo on their chest, the jersey’s came under fire from critics as to be too military like with a fighter jet in the centre and should have been more neutral, but according to team designers and planners, it is something which has heritage
and culture for Winnipeg.
Jets forward, Eric Fehr, commented on how the new jersey’s brought along with them a blend of retro and modern to combine for a perfect look.
“I’m sure it will be one of the better (jerseys) out there”, said Fehr, who was also present at the unveiling ceremony and posed in front of a large crowd. “It’s a great job of keeping the old Jets blue and kind of bringing in a new jersey and style”.
Now all that remains with the jersey is the accessories which are worn by National Hockey League (NHL) players like socks, helmets and gloves. These will also provide in bringing out the look of the jerseys even more and creating a graceful complexion.
For Kevin Cheveldayoff, the moment was historic and made him proud to be part of the new organisation. Let’s just hope that this dedication and passion carries on into the upcoming regular season.
