Winnipeg in July? St Boniface University? Opinions?

I just found out that I was excepted into a 5 week French program in Winnepeg... specifically at the St. Boniface University. Now I am what you westerners refer to as one of those "Ontarians" I CANT live without civilization, or malls. I lived in a small town for two years... and lets just say I'm never going back. I've looked at the St. Boniface University website but it wasn't helpful at all, all the useful links said "coming soon" I couldn't even see the DORM i'm staying in!

so what are your opinions on Winnepeg? Is it comparable to Toronto? or atleast Hamilton, Ontario??? Is there clubs, good shopping? please tell me all about it!

also if anyone has been to St. Boniface Uni, can you tell me about it?

Thanks <3333

  1. Bring lots of insect repellent!

  2. St. Boniface is a beautiful part of Winnipeg, and the campus there is beautiful as well. The area is very historic, lovely to walk around during the summer. Be sure to check out The Forks nearby, for great food and shopping. The Forks caters mostly to tourists and the "organic hippie" artsy crowd.

Winnipeg is no Toronto, sorry to say, but there are some neat places to check out.

    -Osbourne Village (great shopping).

-Corydon Ave (Cafes, bars, shops...and dining)

-The Exchange District (trendy shopping boutiques, restaurants, and some nightclubs).

-Broadway...Nice place to walk down, some restaurants in the area..

-Assinaboine Park...Fabulous zoo, park, and sculpture garden.

Winnipeg has a TON of theatres, restaurants, cultural events (check out Folklorama in the summer), museums, and sporting events (professional and recreational teams).

The beautiful Birds Hill park and Grand Beach are great summer escapes...a short drive from the city.

Winnipeg may not be Toronto or Vancouver, but it DOES have a lot going on if you look. That is the key. It's a hidden gem!

Good luck with your studies and enjoy Winnipeg!

P.S. For the most part, avoid most of Downtown at night. Be careful at nightclubs in the Exchange District. Most people consider the North End and the West End not safe as well. Some parts are OK, but a tourist would not know which ones. Winnipeg is actually fairly safe, as long as you avoid the "bad" areas...like ANY larger city...

  3. Definatly sounds like a great oportunity..St Boniface is a great school and offers a great 5 week french program.Cynthia went to it and loved it.You wont regret it dear
