  1. Just some suggestions. Never lived in any of these towns myself, but have heard good things about them, and travel through them regularly with my job.

    Try these links for:

Selkirk (25 mins from Winnipeg) It's a fairly large community north of Winnipeg. Has some large chain stores, like Walmart, Canadian Tire, and a Tim Hortens which is convienient and saves traveling to Winnipeg all the time. Has a population of about 5, 800, and a bonus of being nearly the popular holiday spots of Lake Winnipeg.

Lockport (15mins from Winnipeg) Is also north of Winnipeg, located just south of Selkirk. It's a lot smaller, but is located close enough to Selkirk and Winnipeg where you don't have the chaos of a big city, but you still have the amenities.

Headingley (5 minutes from Winnipeg) Is located West of Winnipeg, and is almost like a suburb of Winnipeg. Headingley itself is small, but it's so close the shops of Winnipeg that it's a plus.

Finally there is  Elie (20 minutes from Winnipeg) Which is also located west of Winnipeg, almost half way between Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie.

If I had to live in any of them, it would probably be Selkirk or Lockport, though Headingley is a little more convenient to commute to Winnipeg.
