Wins and consistency holds the key for Tiger Woods
It has been an excellent year for Tiger Woods. After battling with injuries and scandals it seems that the former world number one golfer is finally back in his groove.
His start to the year was very inconsistent but since the last few months, the fourteen-time major winner has been playing some excellent golf.
"Rory is playing a lot of events, and so am I, toward the beginning of the year," Woods said in Singapore, where he staged a youth clinic on putting.
"It's about winning golf tournaments. That's how I got to No. 1, that's how Rory got to No. 1. You've got to win golf tournaments, and when you don't, you've got to be consistent and finish high".
At the start of the year he said that his route back to the summit of golf lies in securing wins and maintaining consistency.
This is precisely what he has been doing in the latter part of the season. He has not only won thrice this year but he has been in the mix of things in almost every other tournament that he has played.
He was even close to winning the US Open this year. All these are good signs for Tiger, as he looks to claim back what has been his over so many years.
So far, Rory McIlroy has been his toughest opponent and many pundits are calling their rivalry to be the next big thing in golf.
"Things are progressing nicely," Woods said. "Last year I was 127th on the money list, this year I was second. So I think that's a pretty good improvement in a year. And given that I'm healthy, I'm really looking forward to next year".
Tiger Woods has played down his rivalry with Rory McIlroy because the Irishman is only 23-years-old. There is almost a generation gap between the two and this the first time that Tiger has to deal with a younger rival.
Tiger has participated in 24 events this year and the last time he participated in such a high amount was back in 2005.
Woods must now look to win majors next year if he truly wants to become the number one golfer once again. He has played well this season.
He won, he was consistent but it is the majors that count in the end and he is still four behind Jack Nicklaus.
