Wins for Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky - WNBA Roundup 2nd September
A total of two games were played in WNBA on Sunday night. Atlanta Dream had a brilliant burst from Angel McCoughtry to beat Connecticut Sun while Chicago Sky pulled off an impressive team performance to thump Los Angeles Sparks.
Let’s round up the proceedings of the night.
1.      Atlanta Dream versus Connecticut Sun
Angel McCoughtry erupted with 24 points in under 20 minutes while coming off the bench and helped Atlanta Dream pull off an 87-80 victory over Connecticut Sun in the first game on Sunday night.
While the bench scoring was kept alive by McCoughtry, Sancho Lyttle and Erika de Souza carried the team with their 15 and 14 points respectively. Kara Lawson provided the resistance for Connecticut with 16 points while Danielle
McCray provided good support off the bench with 15 points.
The main difference in the game turned out to be the rebounding advantage Atlanta had. They out-rebounded Connecticut 43-32 with 14 of them coming on the offensive end. There was not much to separate the two teams in the first
three quarters as the scores remained level at 58.  It wasn’t until the final minute of the ball game when Atlanta held Connecticut scoreless and managed to end the game on a 4-0 run on their way to a 7 point victory.
2.      Chicago Sky versus Los Angeles Sparks
In the second game on Sunday night, Chicago Sky had six of their players scoring in double figures as they forced their way to a comfortable 85-74 victory over Los Angeles Sparks.
Epiphanny Prince was the leading scorer with 17 points and was provided equal support by the remaining four starters who also managed to score in double figures. Courtney Vandersloot had 15, Sylvia Fowles managed 14, Swin Cash
chipped in with 13 while Tamera Young managed to get 11 points to her name.
LA’s efforts were led by Kristi Toliver who managed 19 points while Alana Beard and Candace Parker contributed 16 and 15 points respectively. The main difference in the game turned out to be the ball distribution from Chicago as
the whole team managed 25 assists in the ball game, compared to 16.
After trailing in the early proceedings of the contest, Chicago made the most of their ball movement and capped off an impressive comeback in the third quarter in the final stanza of the ball game.
