Wins for Connecticut Sun, Tulsa Shock and Seattle Storm - WNBA Roundup 17th June 2012
There were a total of three games played on 17th June in the WNBA with the Connecticut Sun visiting Atlanta Dream, Phoenix Mercury going over to take on the Tulsa Shock and the reigning champions visiting Seattle Storm,
looking to maintain their perfect record.
Let`s round up the proceedings of the night.
1. Connecticut Sun versus Atlanta Dream
In the first matchup of the night, Connecticut Sun came out 75-73 winners courtesy of Tina Charles holding her cool to knock down two free throws, giving her team their first lead in the game.
Charles finished the game with 23 points and 22 rebounds. Renee Montgomery helped her out with 19 points while coming off the bench while Kara Lawson had 11 point the night. Sun shot the ball 48.3% from the field and went 11 of
11 from the free throw line.
On the other hand, Atlanta Dream after leading from the get go in the game was hard done in the final seconds of the game. Armintie Price scored 20 points; Sancho Lyttle scored 15 while Tiffany Hayes chipped in with 11.
The main factor which let Atlanta down in the game was their rebounding capabilities as they got outrebounded 39-26 in the game.
2. Phoenix Mercury versus Tulsa Shock
The second matchup of the night was played between Tulsa Shock and Phoenix Mercury at the BOK Center in which the home team upset the visitor to record their first win of the season.
Tulsa team were helped in their cause by Riquna Williams who scored 15 points in the final quarter of the game to help her team. Temeka Johnson played well for her 22 points as well whereas Glory Johnson chipped in with 12 points
in the game.
For the Mercury DeWanna Bonner scored 24 points in the game on a 9 of 19 shooting performance. Charde Houston followed up with 22 points of her own but their efforts were hard done by the exploits of Tulsa rookie, Williams.
3. Minnesota Lynx versus Seattle Storm
In the third matchup of the night, the reigning WNBA Champions after making a perfect start to the season were handed their first defeat 62-65 by the hands of Seattle Storm. Tina Thompson finished the night with 10 point for Seattle
but made her most crucial play of the game by knocking down the match winning free throw with only a second remaining in the game.
“I just tapped it a little bit trying to get it to myself,'' Thompson said. ``It's one of those things. Although I was trying to get it, a little luck of it bouncing my way helped, too.''
Sue Bird scored 21 points and was helped out by Tanisha Wright who scored 12 points and dishing out 8 assists.
For Lynx only two players crossed the double figure mark in the game. Maya Moore managed 14 points while Seimone Augustus chipped in with 12 points.
