Wins for Los Angeles Sparks and San Antonio Silver Stars – WNBA Roundup 5th July
A total of two matches were played in the WNBA on Thursday July 5th with Los Angeles Sparks just edging out Minnesota Lynx at the Staples Center and San Antonio Silver Stars marching their way to an away win against Indiana Fever. Let`s round up the proceedings of the day.
1. Los Angeles Sparks versus Minnesota Lynx
In the first matchup of the night, Los Angeles Sparks, coming into the game after a break of one week, made the most of their rested legs to edge past defending champions Minnesota Lynx with a 96-90 win and snapping their three game losing skid.
Kristi Toliver pulled of a splendid night by shooting the ball 6 of 6 from three point land to make her way to 29 points while Candace Parker provided equal support in the ball game by notching up a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds.
On the other hand, Seimone Augustus paced Minnesota with 18 points but her efforts could not prevent Lynx from losing two games back to back for the first time since June, 2011. Maya Moore also put in a good effort with 14 points; Rebekkah Brunson chipped in 11 while Amber Harris and Candice Wiggins managed to record 10 points each.
2. San Antonio Silver Stars versus Indiana Fever
The second matchup of the night saw San Antonio Silver Stars head over to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse and come out with an 88-72 victory over the Indiana Fever, their fifth consecutive win.
It was an overall team effort from San Antonio especially in the second half. Becky Hammon led the way with 19 points while Jia Perkins added 17 points. Sophia Young also played well for 15 points and 8 rebounds while Danielle Robinson was able to make her way to 14 points in the ball game.
For the Indiana side, three players were able cross the double-digit mark in the game with Katie Douglas notching up 19, Tamika Catchings managing her way to double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds and Briann January adding 16 points.
