Wins for Nigeria and Greece – FIBA Olympic Qualifiers Roundup 4th July – Part 2
1. Nigeria versus Lithuania
In the third matchup of Day 3 in Olympic Qualifiers, Nigeria managed their way to an 86-80 win over Lithuania after a hard fought battle to qualify for the 1/8 playoffs and will now take on Greece in their next affair.
Derrick Obasohan, along with three other Nigerian players, finished the game with double figure statistics. Obasohan managed to get 20 points and Al Farouq Aminu of the New Orleans Hornets signed off with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Ike Diogu managed to get 11 points along with 8 rebounds in the game while Anthony Oludewa Skinn chipped in with 15 points of his own. On the other hand, four players for the Lithuanian’s finished the game with double digit scores
with Linas Kleiza leading the charge at 22 points on a 6 of 11 shooting night.
Sarunas Jasikevicius shot the ball 5 of 7 from the field to manage 14 points. Martynas Pocius managed to chip in with 13 points while Jonas Valanciunas recorded 10 points in the game.
2. Greece versus Puerto Rico
The fourth and final match of day 3 saw Greece take on Puerto Rico and after a slow start, the Greeks managed to carve their way to a 98-84 victory.
Vasileios Spanoulis led the way for Greeks with 27 points with 12 of those coming from three point land and Ioannis Bourousis provided equal support with 16 points.
Georgios Printezis shot the ball 6 of 11 from the field for 16 points as well and Nikos Zisis chipped in with 13 points in the ball game.
For the Puerto Ricans, despite having four players making sizable double digit contributions, a victory was not possible. Both teams have qualified for the 1/8 round due to start tomorrow.
Peter Ramos managed to make his way to 15 points and Jose Juan Barea chipped in with 13 points and 4 assists. Renaldo Balkman shot the ball 100% from the field by making all of his 5 field goals to manage 13 points while Nathan
Peavy mustered up 10 of his own
