Question:

Winter Snowboarding Trip: How do I prepare?

I'm planning to go to Washington this Winter Break with several friends, and I figured that I should start planning. Currently, roundtrip airplane tickets are $600.. when do they start rising?

What type of clothes are recommended for the winter.. it'll be the first time for me being in the snow.

And what shall I do about finding a place to stay?

  1. The tickets will get more expensive as the winter season approaches if the area you want to go to is a ski resort area.  So if you can buy your tickets now for example, you may have a good savings.  However, talk to a few travel agents - it doesn't mean you have to buy from any particular agent - but it will give you ideas.  The travel agent should also help with ideas about places to stay.  There may be hostels in the area, but you and your friends need to communcate about your accommodations plans. Most resort areas will be expensive.  Do searches for tourism for the area you want to visit and you may get more ideas.

You should probably talk to someone at a sporting goods store that sells winter gear.  You have to think about feet, hands and ears especially, so make sure you take care of them - you don't want frostbite.  You will need a warm and wind and water proof jacket and pants.  If your feet are cold, you will be miserable, so make sure you have good boots.  Look for gear that has thinsulate insulation, or better.

Sunblock might be important if you don't want to get sunburned.  Sun on snow is very bright, so you will also need eye protection, possibly goggles.

You may be able to rent most of the equipment you'll need at the site.  It depends on where you are going.

    Have fun.
