Winter X Games Aspen 2012 to kick off with charity event to fight cancer
A joint charity event is being organised by the V Foundation for Cancer Research and Boarding for Breast Cancer on the eve of Winter X Games Aspen 2012, January 25, in Aspen, Colorado.
The intended motivation for arranging the event is to raise money that will be utilised to help the two organisations in their fight against cancer.
The event will act as a platform where athletes and donors will be brought together, giving them an opportunity to interact with one another. The night will be filled with live musical performances from Operations Jazz Duet, along with fireside food and
drink stalls.
The charity event will also feature a silent auction, which will include items bearing autographs of the renowned action sports athletes such as Travis Pastrana, Shaun White, Tucker Hibbert and Torah Bright. The auction will also offer an opportunity for
the guests to get a great deal for a spa day, take home autographed snowboards and experience a day with an iconic action sports athlete among many other things.
All the proceeds from the event will be used for the benefit of V Foundation for Cancer Research and Boarding for Breast Cancer.
Commenting on the charity event, ESPN’s vice president of content and sponsorship development Chris Stiepock stated, “We couldn't be more excited to team up with The V Foundation and Boarding for Breast Cancer once again for this terrific evening.”
Stiepock went on to express his gratitude to Aspen and the entire community for showing their unwavering support in the fight that has been initiated against cancer, conceding that he could not think of a better way to kick of the winter action sports mega-event
than raising funds for a great and noble cause.
The V Foundation, one of the two hosts for Wednesday’s charity event, was started by ESPN following the death of North Carolina State University basketball coach Jimmy Valvano. At the age of 46, he was diagnosed with cancer that eventually claimed his life
shortly after he earned an ESPY award from ESPN.
The other host of the charity event, Boarding for Breast Cancer, is a non-profit foundation advocating early detection and prevention of breast cancer, focusing primarily on youth and the action sports community.
