Winter X Games returning to Aspen in January 2012
The biggest stage for winter action sports, Winter X Games, is returning to Aspen/Snowmass in Colorado, America, to deliver a heavy dose of exciting action to the fans from January 26-29, 2012. ESPN, the organisers of Winter X Games, will be stepping forward
once again to give live coverage to the commercial annual sports event throughout its entirety.
Aspen will be playing host to the Winter X Games for the 10th year in a row and has proved to be ideal for the sporting event. The conditions and slopes offered by the event site provide a perfect environment for the greatest athletes of the various
winter sports to come forward and treat the fans to spectacular performances.
ESPN has decided to move the slopestyle competition to night, putting it on air during the prime time. This deviation from the previous years will increase the viewer-ship of the event which made a place for itself in the Winter Olympics 2014 a few months
back following a long struggle.
Last year’s Snowboard Slopestyle gold medallist from Canada, Sebastien Toutant, applauded ESPN’s decision to schedule the slopestyle events at night, saying, "For my peers and I, competing under the lights in prime time represents a huge opportunity for
even more people to see what we do and get excited about it. I'm really excited that ESPN made the decision to air Slopestyle at night this year."
With every passing year, winter action sports is gaining more popularity and the viewership stats released by ESPN is an evidence of that. The increasing popularity of extreme sports is a real encouragement for the broadcasting companies to think out of
the box to capitalise on the opportunity and make their contribution to the sport.
Winter X Games 16 will be featuring multiple disciplines of various sports, which includes snowmobile, snowboarding and freeskiing, etc. The first wave of invitations has already been dispatched and some of the most thrilling action sports athletes have
already confirmed that they will be landing on Aspen to compete for one of the most coveted prize in winter sports, Winter X gold medal.
