Winter/holiday PE class activity ideas?

I am a physical education teacher at a school with students with very very special needs. most cannot walk and those who can are wobbly and have no specific direction when they walk. i am trying to think of a special holiday themed activity for the next week of classes. the activity needs to be so simple that students will not necessarilly need to be standing/walking to complete it. one of the activities that i am going to do is a "snowball fight" where the kids will use yarn (very soft) balls and throw/push them towards a bowling pin that has a picture of a snowman on it. anyone have any other ideas that i can do for these kids for the holidays? keep in mind that its a school so it can't be specifically "christmas" themed, but can be relative to the "holiday season" in general. thanks in advance for any ideas!!!

  1. I am not a teacher or anything, but what about building a snowman Styrofoam balls and add a hat, scarf, etc.

Have you tried a rainbow parachute? I'm not sure if you're students could do this this but, put something that resembles snow and make it snow. I think kids would love that! Again I don't know if this work. Good Luck!

  2. Check out these websites - these are loaded with many great ideas.  I would read the kids a story, have them do snowflakes, Santa puppets, decorate cookies, arts and crafts (oriental trading) best catalogue to order inexpensive supplies.

Thanks to people like you that really care and keep these children busy while us (teachers) are doing other busy stuff.

    Happy Holidays!

  3. My class is doing a bean bag toss- we have red and green buckets and bean bags. You can have them match the colors or have pictures on the bag and buckets if you want to try sorting. Anything is snow is great. There is a fake snow that we use for sensory activities.                               http://www.sno-wonder.com/order.asp   If you don't mind spending some money, you can get enough of that for the students to sit or roll in, play or build with. We usually do it once a year at "Christmas" time. I've also used instant potato flakes or cotton balls for snow.  Red, green and white balloons could be fun. Put on some holiday music and let them bat the balloons. Good Luck!
