Winter jackets, down or polyester fill?

Question

I need a new winter coat for the Canadian winter, is down filled better than polyester filled or vice versa, and what are the pros and cons?

Down is very warm.  However, it is bulky and does not work well for active sports (skiing, boarding, etc.).  There are some very warm jackets available with synthetic materials.  Like everything, good ones are not cheap (Spyder, Descente, Bogner, etc.)  Columbia is pretty good for the money.

Down is by far the best!!!!!!  Warm but not to warm
