Winter jobs in Canada, but not with skis?

I'm from Australia and am considering applying for a job in the ski resorts in winter in Canada. The thing is I'm not really into skiing, I have only ever seen snow a couple of times in my life. I'd give it a go but are there other jobs I could do? I'd like to see the snow and living there in the winter sounds fun like something different!!

  1. Hotels are looking for people to handle room service, changing of linens, cleaning of rooms, and even front desk clerical work.

Likewise, there are restaurants that are always looking for hostesses, waitresses, busboys, etc to help during the peak tourist seasons.

I would find out if any businesses in Banff or Whistler area are looking for help for next season, since this one is almost over. Try applying in August, when many students have to go back to school here. They may be looking then. Of course, make sure you have your passport up to date and have already applied for any work permit you may need.

Another option you might want to consider is a cruise ship. Many people like to take the Alaskan cruises, which take you through beautiful rugged ports and along the coast of Canada and USA. You will see snow and great landscapes, but don't need to ski. And you get days off so could go ashore and see the town or just stay on the ship and enjoy the scenery.

  2. There are chalets and hotels on the ski resorts that would probably need employees.  I am sure you could find something that doesn't have anything to do with skiing.

And maybe while you are there you can pick it up! :)

  3. What about hotel jobs?  However it's not as easy as it sounds to come to Canada.  You would have to apply for a work permit.  Also not easy, because you have to be willing to do a job that a Canadian dosn't want to do, I would suggest you try going to Austira or Switzerland if you want to see snow, probably much easier to get a work permit.  Or you could apply to become a nanny through the domestic programme here.

Trust me I live here...6 months of snow,  and it's not all that it's cracked up to be.
